Time to share the love of this pet household….settling in for the evening…spent some time on the kitchen floor watching Lucy dog and the brother cats – Stan and Ollie – settle for the evening. Here is what it looked like tonight. (Stan has white on his paws…thus Ollie is the one with out white.)

It was a “Jungle” out there this morning!

Lucy dog and I headed out for our morning walk…..she on her leash beside me while I am listening to “The Paris Wife”….have the iPhone in my pocket…no ear buds as I want to hear things around me. Lucy and I walked two blocks before Ollie cat joined us….he had much to say along the way. We only walked two more blocks before I felt like we had entered twilight zone with a flashback to Alfred Hitchcock’s movie “The Birds”. There were a few blackbirds sitting on the telephone wires. One of them took a particular interest in Ollie….that darn blackbird kept swooping down and moving from block to block. At one point I picked up the cat. After about 3 more blocks the blackbird stopped trailing us. It’s soon time to turn the corner heading back home…..Lucy digs in her heels and we have to have a moment of chat. Onward…..and then there was the squirrel….more rigid moments in Lucy’s body. Stan cat greets us (now it’s just Lucy and me….Ollie left us a couple blocks before home). Stan is stretching and rolling over on his back as we walk up the driveway. Then he jumps up to kiss Lucy. Stan likes to stay home and “guard” the house.
It’s been a “jungle” kind of morning!

It was a lovely and lively walk today…..Ollie cat stayed with us for the 30 minute walk….Stan cat stayed home to “guard” the house. The gang is all resting now!

Has it really been since February that I last chatted about my animal farm?! Well…it has and now the “kids” are back! What’s been going on here….more time in my yard with an emphasis towards home improvement….as well as I let my busy-like nature get in the way of being current on this blog.
Here’s the cat activity around the new herb garden.
Enjoy Stan’s new perch .

Time to join the blogging world again…
The day begins with Ollie cat leading the way for Lucy and me to walk our morning walk….note Stan can’t be bothered and you can find him resting and waiting for us at home.
Hope your Christmas was joyous and the best for the New Year!

Boy…it’s been weeks of cabin fever…rain and more rain! Today is the second day of no rain and my “animal farm” is very happy. Lucy, who hasn’t had nearly enough exercise in the last couple weeks, is laying on the deck by the open back door. She is quiet, content…and doing her job of contently guarding the house. The cats, Stan and Ollie who are now almost 2 1/2 years old, are checking out the neighborhood….they’ll be home soon! Lucy just turned 2…didn’t I just bring her home the other day? She is such a good dog….and the cats are great…and of course, there is no bias on my part. Each day starts with them making me laugh….I wake with “oh no, it’s time to get up….then I see these guys beginning to scamper around and I just plain laugh! Spring photos coming soon!
The Stare-Down

We’re back! Tonight it seems to be quiet and I am thinking how good Lucy the dog is being…she is sitting beside my chair as I “blog” away….then I realize she has a stare-down going with Stan the cat. They are all too funny…bring many smiles!
So….what’s been going on? It’s been two months I see since I’ve posted about this wonderful “animal farm”. I’ve gotten caught up in some exciting family history projects…and the pet gang is surviving in spite of me!
Christmas found many of the family at niece Honara’s home. My dog Lucy got to come and spent the night. Honara’s husband Scott is great with dogs and we, Lucy and me, got some “dog whisper” training. My girl now stays and settles much better. I was on holiday and vacation during the week between Christmas and New Year’s. While I had a great time catching up with many of my personal interests, i.e. the latest family blog “Michelle and Carolyn Chronicles”, guess who had an even better great time? Lucy was in dog heaven. We went to the dog park every morning – even when it was only 39 degrees. She was an exercised and rested dog….and I could work away on the family history.
For Christmas I gave family history related gifts to my young nieces and nephews….the women in our family tree to Chloe and Shelby, my dad’s woolen coat from his Navy days (coat in great shape) to Dan, a photo collage about the family Cameo to Betsy, and to young Sam – the family history of our Amercian Revolutionary ancestory Colonel Samuel Miles. These were fun gifts that took a little time….and they were inspired both by a presentation that I gave to a SAR’s group about Colonel Samuel Miles and by a suggestion from my niece that her children would like to receive personal gifts from me.
Back to the animal farm…I know that all, including myself, have a little cabin fever. It’s been rainy and cold and not much fun to be outside. Back to work this week and the sun is out…but it’s still cold. Lucy and I will hook up with her dog friend Sophie this weekend.
Happy New Year to all!

So….Ollie is walking all over my desk…what’s the deal? He’s had dinner…where is his brother Stan? Lucy is trying to supervise but the cat is outwitting the dog. There’s a chill in the air and we’re all in tonight. I’m dreaming of knitting, cooking, blogging, reading, and of course chores…what will really get done? Chili is on the stove…one of my comfort foods. The blogging is in process. I’ll knit and I am also eager to dive into some “new” family history information that I received yesterday. Who knew that I had a great (5 x’s) grandfather in the American Revolution. It was in the Miles FamilyHistory book but I never quite read that far back. My paternal grandmother Alta was a Miles.
Earlier this week I was able to capture the early morning activity around here…..the cats and dog waking to the world!
Last night was amazing in that the sunset was stunning and so many of us were out walking our dogs and children and muttering “Who can believe it’s November?” I had a moment of joy about living in California….remembering why….the beauty of the autumn sunsets. (Be sure to scroll down to see the sunset photos.)
- The gang – Stan’s white paws are barely visible
- Lucy and Ollie begin the morning “dance”
- Ollie, Lucy and Stan (his white paws are under the table)

A great idea for Lucy!

As many of you know it rained last weekend….and Lucy does not love the water. However, she had cabin fever and we went off to Pt Isabel on both weekend days. On Saturday she got to run with her dog friend Sophie while Karen and I walked along behind them laughing at their antics thinking they were and are the cutest dogs ever! Sunday found Lucy and me at the park without Sophie and Karen….they had better sense and stayed home out of the rain…but again Lucy had cabin fever and I wanted to write…so she needed to have exercise. I could tell that Lucy was perplexed while we were at the dog park…. dog pal Sophie wasn’t there…but she managed to romp along.
In spite of never feeling like there is enough time…I am so glad that Lucy and the boy cats Stan and Ollie live here. They make me smile and my heart happy!
Photos from the dog park coming soon!
Lucy’s sleeping! Stan’s sleeping! Where is Ollie?

Trying to squeeze a little computer time in here tonight….Lucy is sleeping…and boy I can get a lot done when that pup is down. I need to go into the other room but if I do my computer time is up! She had a great run at Pt Isabel this morning…it was gray and brisk…and she and ran…while I walked along. I was here for part of the morning – a vacation day – and then Bill, his son Rich and I were off to a family memorial service in Rocklin, CA…couple hours from here. Lucy was eager to see me return at 6pm…Stan has been around tonight…and oh where is that rascal Ollie?
Some new photos will be posted soon….yesterday Lucy was 18 months old…the kittens/now cats are 23 mos old…tjhey’ve been with me since they were 2 1/2 mos old….I can hardly believe it! Some days seem to labor on…and then I reflect on where has the time gone.
